With displays on phones getting larger and their quality getting better, consuming media content on phones is getting much more traction. These days I spend most of the time watching content on phone rather than my PC. I would not have said these words a year or two back when a 5.5-inch device was considered to be a large phone. Though OEMs are providing better hardware to facilitate the need for those who want to consume media on phones the software on most phones is just not up to the mark and when I say software, I mean the video player app. That is the very reason why MX player has been my go-to app for watching videos on my phone.
MX Player features an intuitive, easy to use interface; support for a wide range of file formats including MKV, MOV, MP4, MPEG, AVI and many more; support for subtitles; playback resume and auto download subtitles. It has been the forefront in the Android Video Player market. But in recent times, developers of MX Player have changed their privacy policies and have started pushing ads unless you have the pro version installed which costs around 370 INR. If you are annoyed of these changes or have your personal reason to be annoyed, here are some worthy alternatives for MX Player.

Best MX Player Alternatives
VLC Media Player
If you are using Windows PC, it is very likely that you would be using VLC Media Player. It is very popular on the Windows platform and supports almost all media file formats. The same can be said for the Android version as well. The app is in line with Google’s material design and the interface is quite similar to the MX Player and is very easy to use. It takes advantage of the PiP API and supports picture in picture mode which is missing on MX Player. It even has support for Google Chromecast, dark mode; has an inbuilt equalizer and has no ads being free to use. All these features are missing in the MX Player.

KM Player
KM Player is yet another popular media player on Windows PC which has made its way to the Google Play Store. It features all possible feature that is required to be a worthy replacement for the MX Player. The interface is quite similar to MX Player that would not trouble you while you switch from MX Player. It supports most of the file formats including H.265 encoded MKV files. The app features all the features of MX Player with some add-ons like Picture in Picture mode and the ability to sync content with the drive. The only downside is ads but that would not be a huge issue since they are far less in comparison when compared with MX Player.
Archos Video Player
Archos Video Player is yet another great video player for Android user. Its user interface is quite different than what other video players have. There are no on-screen gestures for brightness and volume control like most of the other video players but it compensates it with a menu bar that does all that stuff. A tap on the screen makes the menu bar pop up with controls to control the brightness, place a bookmark, rotate the screen and similar kinds of stuff. It comes with the very useful picture in picture mode which its developers decided to call Windows mode for some reason unknown. It supports most video file types, including MKV, MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV, etc. The app is available for free with some ads and limited access to certain controls but there is a pro version available as well to facilitate the need of power users. Some features like Source content from multiple places and TV mode. GOM Player are a welcome addition.

Some of its notable features are multi-core hardware decoding, hardware accelerated playback, and support for streaming from network (DLNA) devices. It supports almost all the kind of file formats available and has an easy to use interface which will be liked by many. It does not have any pro versions and the standard free version comes with some ads.
Mobo Player
Just like BS Player, Mobo Player has seen most parts of the evolution of Android and in that course in time has managed itself to evolve into a pretty good video player. It comes loaded with all the necessary features like hardware and software decoding, support for subtitles, playlists, support continuous playback and the ability to stream videos via DLNA TVs through HTTP and RTSP protocols. It allows its users to set up a server on their computer and then it will stream content from your computer to your smartphone. It is based on the XBMC framework which turns your personal computer into a media server that enables access to all your films, photos and music, from a multitude of devices via a beautiful and slick user interface. Other than the remote server feature, it has all other necessary kinds of stuff to be a great video player. It is available both in free and paid version with the free version having limited access to certain features.
GOM Player
GOM (Gretech Online Movie) Player is a media player developed by the GOM & Company of South Korea. Its main features include the ability to play some broken media files and find missing codecs using a codec finder service. Like many other media players on this list, GOM Player is also available on the Windows platform and can be handy for those who have used it on their PCs. Final Words
The list is not any particular order. But if I had to pick anyone among these, I would have gone for the VLC Media Player. I use on it on my mobile and on my PC as well
