Each of the applications in Windows maintains a buffer of recent operations that can undergo to its previous situation or in other words you can undo the task which you just did. The size of the buffer solely depends on the application. Considering Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint you can undo the last 100 typing actions or design changes, while on the other hand, Microsoft access is limited to only 20. All you need to do is keep on pressing the keyboard shortcut for the undo command which is ctrl+z. After each successive pressing of the command, each change will keep on reverting. The redo function works the same way, redoing the last actions or changes that you have made.
Revert
However, there are some exceptions and in certain situations, you won’t be able to undo or redo the commands or changes that you have made. Such as saving a file. For these types of tasks or actions, you won’t be able to undo or redo the actions preceding it. In case you want to undo or redo any changes you have made inside an application and that application doesn’t allow you to do so. Simply close that application without saving it, and it should open it with the last state when it was saved and all of your changes will be lost. Also, Microsoft has smartly integrated an option to restore or recover any unsaved documents which you lost using Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint.

How To View a CVR File

How To Read an ETL File
Microsoft has a pretty strong rescue system for its operating system. The Event trace logs are stored under the Panther folder of the Windows directory on the system’s drive where the Windows is installed. Mostly it is C:/Windows/Panther. While all of the other logs can be found at C:/Windows/Logs.
Tracerpt
Tracerpt is yet another tool developed by Microsoft that helps in parsing the contents of an ETL file and saves it into a comma-delimited text or simply in an XML file which can be easily opened and read using Microsoft Excel or any different kind of text editor. To access the Tracerpt tool, open a command-line window. To open the command prompt on your computer, you need to press the Windows key and then type the command prompt and then press enter.

The Microsoft Event viewer is a graphic interface viewer which is native to Windows operating system and it can read the application and system-generated event logs. If you want to access the Event Viewer on Windows 8, you need to simultaneously press the Wind and X key from your keyboard, to bring up the Power Task Menu and then from the drop-down menu you need to find and select the Event viewer option. How To Restore Default Registry Settings

Changing a few registries can be good or bad for you depending on what and which registry you edit. however, there is some registries that should remain untouched, and editing them can be dangerous for the operating system to work normally. So, if you have been editing registries lately, to fix some issues on your computer and you just want to restore your registry to the default values, fortunately,, Microsoft has implemented a tool for us power users who edits with the registry.
Well, to restore the registry values to default, two methods can be followed. the first method is straightforward, but it does require an existing backup file. Using regedit’s import function, you can reinstate a saved set of registry values. Since it needs a backup of your previous state of registry values and only then it will work, so if you haven’t created a backup of your registry values before editing them then you may have to try the second method which is right below. using the system restore application, you can take the Windows back to a time before the registry started having problems, or we can say before you started editing your registry values.
Restoring the Registry from a Backup
- As mentioned earlier, this method only works if you have taken a backup of your registry values before you started editing the registry values, or when the computer was new. The registry values are not backed up automatically by Windows, you have to do it yourself manually, so next time if you start editing registry values, make sure to first create a backup of it. Else, if you have created a backup of your registry values before you started editing them then you can proceed with the next step.
- Press the Windows Key- R to open the run dialogue box. Next, you need to type in regedit inside the text box and then press enter to open the registry editor application of windows.
- From the top bar, select File and then click on import navigate and select the backup which you have created of the registry file. Click Open and then Regedit will restore your backed-up registry settings.
Turning Back The Clock With System Restore
- To start the restoring of your registry on your Windows, you need to press the Windows key+ R to open the Run dialogue box. Next, you need to type in systempropertiesprotection and then press enter, it should launch the system properties utility.
- Next, you need to select the System Protection tab and then you can click on the System Restore… button.
- Click on Next to go proceed with the wizard of restoration. The next screen should display a list of dates on which your computer has created a backup point or restore point. Select a date to which you want your computer to restore. Each listing also represents a snapshot of Windows on that date and it also shows the changes that your computer made on that date.
- Finally, click on Next and then system restore will reinstate your previous Windows settings, this includes the old registry as well.
How to Copy and paste in PuTTY
In Microsoft Windows, you can simply copy information or files from an application to the clipboard by simply highlighting it and then [dressing the ctrl+c keyboard shortcut. Then you can paste that file or information or text, to anywhere from the clipboard using the keyboard shortcut ctrl+V. In a PuTTY session, the Windows shortcut keys don’t work the way it works throughout the operating system. Instead of pressing ctrl+C to copy the information, you can simply copy the information to Windows by highlighting the text with your mouse. Instead, of pressing ctrl+V to paste text from Windows, you need to press the right mouse click button and that’s it, the information will be pasted at your desired location.

To copy and paste from within PuTTY, all you have to do is simply highlight the text of information that you want to copy, position your cursor at the place where you want to paste it within the PuTTY. Then you have to right-click from your mouse and it will paste it there only. On the other hand, if you are using the editors like nano or Vi to edit documents, you can also use the editor’s cut and paste functionality.
The Location of the Windows backup Log
As mentioned earlier, Microsoft Windows is built in a way that it is all the time prepared for backups, a tool that allows you to back up your data files, a system image and the previous version of files and folders, everything can be restored on a Windows machine. You can run this application manually or automatically on a regular schedule.
Location
The location of these backups made by Windows is in the C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsBackups, which is the default location. there are chances that you may not be able to see this folder or the content inside this if you don’t have admin rights or if you are not the owner of the computer.
Skipped Files or Folders
In case Windows skips any files or folders while creating the backup. Windows is smart enough to note it down in a log file. You can use Windows notepad to open the file and view all of the skipped files and folders during the backup.
Detailed LogFiles
You can also view a detailed event log using the Windows Event Viewer. All you have to do is select the open Saved Log and then navigate to the log’s location. Event Viewer will simply open .etl files.
How To Save JSX Files
