So you have finally decided to restore your Mac, as you want to pass your Mac over someone, or you just want to sell it, or you want to wipe out the data, whatever the reason is. Performing a factory reset will not only re-install a clean macOS but also it will boost your device performance.

Guide to Factory Reset a Mac
There’s so much personal and other data present on your Mac, as time passes your Mac somehow gets sluggish. But performing a factory reset will resolve the performance issue, here’s how to do it.
To perform a factory reset a Mac, users need to do the following:
Step 1: Restart your Mac
First, just restart your Mac, this the major thing you should do. Hold down the power button till a window is shows up and displays “Are you sure you want to restart your computer now?” Click on Restart, to restart your Mac.
Or simply, you can just press Control + Command + Eject (or power button) to restart your device alternately.
Step 2: Open in Recovery Mode
While your Mac is turned off, just press Command + R on your keyboard till the Apple logo appears on your screen, just release the keys and let your Mac boot up, this might take some time. Your Mac will boot into Recovery Mode, just choose the user profile and enter a password.
As we have to restore your Mac completely, just select Disk Utility and tap to Continue.
Step 3: Erase the Data
Once you’re on the Disk Utility window, just click on Erase located at the top of the Disk Utility window. A dialog box will appear, change the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journal). Then click on Erase. After the process is completed visit the Disk Utility menu located at the upper-left corner and choose Quit Disk Utility.
Note: While doing this step, your data will be wiped out permanently, and there’s no way t recover any deleted data. If there’s any important data is present on the disk that you don’t want to lose, then it’s recommended to create a backup on an external drive or iCloud.
Step 4: Re-install macOS
This is the final step, return back to the macOS utility screen, click Reinstall macOS and click on continue, and follow the on-screen instructions to install a clean macOS.
Once the installing prorcess is completed, you have a clean macOS just like brand new. If you want to restore a backup on your Mac, just visit macOS Utility and click on Resore From Time Machine Backup. Select the required backup and reinstall your saved files.
