MacBook has a built-in microphone, which is helpful if you use FaceTime, Skype, Siri, Photo Both, and making phone calls. However, you can connect headsets and other mics via USB, 3.5mm audio jack, or Bluetooth.

Clean the Mac’s internal microphone
It’s not easy to guess where exactly the microphone is located on the Mac. It could present in the tiny holes, maybe inside the speaker grills nearby the keyboard area, or the tiny hole next to your device FaceTime or iSight camera.
Once you find where the microphone is located inside the device. Get the microfiber cloth and clean the microphone. If there’s any debris present over the microphone area, use compressed air to remove dust particles, that might interfere with work-related to the microphone.
Configure the Microphone
Make sure that your Mackbook microphone is recognized and selected.
Step 1: Visit System Preferences app.
Step 2: Click on Sound icon.
Step 3: Select Input from the tabs located at the top of the window.
Step 4: Check if the Internal Microphone is displayed there.
Step 5: Select Internal Microphone and start sating something in order to record.
Step 5: Drag the Input volume to high or medium so that microphpn is loud enough.

Enable the Dictation
Turning on the Dictation will resolve most of the problems and errors related to the microphone by downloading the required drivers.
Step 1: Visit System Preferences.
Step 2: Go to Keyboard window.
Step 3: Click on the Dictation tab loacated at the right.
Step 4: Once done, select the On button.
Step 5: The required drivers will be downloaded automatically.
Now, just check if the microphone works as it suppose to be.
Reset Your PRAM
PRAM stores all the small details that include brightness, volume, start-up disks, and microphone configurations. Resetting the PRAM, the settings will get back to default, and this can resolve the issue.
Step 1: Click on Apple icon located at the top left and select Shut Down.
Step 2: Wait for the device to trun off completely.
Step 3: Press the power button and hold cmd+alt+P+R until you hear a chime.
Step 4: Release the button, and let the MackBook turn on.

Test a New Account

Step 1: Visit System Preferences app.
Step 2: Click on users & Groups.
