Before turning on automatic login, we need to turn off FileVault which helps to protect your data. Here’s how to do that:
Step 1: Visit System Preferences and go to User & Groups.
Step 2: Click to lock and enter your administrator password.
Step 3: Click on Login Options > open the Automatic Login drop-down menu.
Step 4: Choose account from the list, and enter the password.
It only enables you to change the automatic login only if your iCloud password and login password is same. Make sure to change the password in Users & Groups settings.
Disable Login Password on Mac when Waking Up
In order to conserve power, Mac goes to sleep if there’s any inactivity. As a result, you have to enter the password every time on Mac waking up. Here’s how to disable the login password on Mac when waking up.
Step 1: Visit System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Genral.
Step 2: Click to lock and enter your administrator password, if needed.
Step 3: Untick Disble automatic login.
Step 4: Select usename under drop-down, for Automatic log in as:
Step 5: Enter admin password and tap on OK.
Step 6: Untick the Required password box.
Step 7: Enter Mac administrator password.
Step 8: Select Turn off Screen Lock or choose a time period.
Step 9: You can choose to keep Keychain password available to whoever uses your Mac.
Disable Login Password on Mac when Switching Users
Mind you, Mac doesn’t allow us to remove the need for entering the password, but we can choose to keep the password blank. You can just press enter when asked for a password. Also, many users notice that it is unable to keep a blank password using MacBook, and macOS High Sierra, and above, if you do, the warning appears as “the password is empty”.
But if you’re using macOS Mojave, you can follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit System Preferences > go to Users & Groups.
Step 2: Click to lock and enter your administrator password.
Step 3: Click on your username from the left, and select Change Password.
Step 4: Enter the Old password, but don’t fill New Passoword.
Step 5: Click on Change Password, and agree to have blank password.

You can have an additional Mac admin account as a backup, it is advised not to use a blank password but rather set up your Mac to auto-login to the new account.
