FaceTime Troubleshooting Guide
To fix the issue, users need to do the following:
Reinstall FaceTime app
Delete and reinstall the FaceTime app, this is the major thing you can perform. Here’s how to do that:
Step 1: Press and hold the FaceTime app until it shakes and jiggles.
Step 2: Tap on X, and press Delete.
Step 3: Press Delete.
Step 4: Visit App Store, search FaceTime, download and reinstall.
Toggle FaceTime OFF and ON
Try to toggle off and on FaceTime by visiting Settings > FaceTime. Once done, restart your device and then check if this works.
Re-Sign In FaceTime
First, sign out of FaceTime and then sign back in by tapping on your Apple ID. You can restart your iDevice after your sign-out FaceTime to see if this works.
Mac users can do the same by visiting Facetime > Preferences in the Settings tab. Here, Sign Out and sign in back again.
Check Apple’s Server Status
Visit App’s System Status site, and check if the FaceTime server is running fine. The yellow dot indicates that the FaceTime server is on maintenance. If that’s the case, wait for the server to work.
Update iOS or macOS
For iOS: Visit Settings > General > Software Updates or use iTunes instead.
For Mac: Visit System Preferences > Software Update.
Check Screen Time and Restrictions
Disable Screen Time temproraily.
- Settings > Screen Time
- For older iOS, visit Settings > General > Restrictions
- If FaceTime works after disabling Screen Time or Restrictions, ensure to check FaceTime and Camera are allowed apps.
Set Date and Time correctly
Make sure that your Date and Time is correct, also enable Set Audtomatically option.
- For iOS, visit Settings > General > Date & Time and enable Set Automatically.
- For Mac, visit Apple menu > System Preferences, click on Date and Time. Toggle on the Set Automatically option.
Reset Network Settings and Device’s Settings
Resetting Network Settings will wipe out Wi-Fi passwords, cellular settings, etc. Visit Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
To reset the device’s settings, visit Settings > General > Reset and tap on Reset All Settings.
Above resetting method will not affect on your personal data or information.
Change Your DNS
Visit Settings > Wi-Fi > Tap on your Wi-Fi name > then tap on your DNS. Enter Google’s DNS i.e 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
