Install a Lightweight Torrent Client:

The first and foremost step that you need to follow in order to increase the torrent downloading speed is to install a lightweight torrent client, the reason for using a lightweight torrent client is because it only focuses on downloading torrents thus speeding up the transfer rate for you.

Choose a Healthy Torrent

To understand the concept of healthy torrent you need to first know about the leechers and seeders present in the particular file, in simple terms a ‘seeder’ is the one who has a complete copy of the file shared across the network and a leecher is the one who does not have a complete copy of file but has joined the network to download the file. 

So once the leecher completes his downloading, they will also become a seeder for that particular file. In order for you to get a high torrent download speed, the number of seeders for the file should be higher than the number of leechers. 

In simple math having more number of seeders could be termed as a healthier torrent file. So always check for the seeder > leecher ratio before downloading any files.

Add an Exception to Windows Firewall:

Since the windows firewall can block your torrent client/incoming BitTorrent connections, it is better to add an exception to Windows firewall to boost your torrent downloading speed. All you need to do is, navigate to Options > Preferences > Connections, now check the Add Windows Firewall exception and then click Apply.

(Check Enable UPnP port mapping in case it’s unchecked).

Note: Never shut down your Windows Firewall permanently as it leaves your PC vulnerable to attacks.

Change General Settings to Optimize uTorrent:

As shown in the picture below, tick all the 3 boxes in general settings to increase the speed of your torrent. You can access this from the Options> Preferences> General then tick Append .!ud to incomplete files and Pre-allocate all files. Usually, the third option will be ticked by default but if it’s not, then you can tick that now.

Limit Your Global Upload and Download Rate

Limiting your upload and download rate in your torrent is also one of the key methods to increase torrent downloading speed on clients like qBitTorrent, BitTorrent, u Torrent and so on.

Here, setting up your upload rates in between 70-80% of your maximum upload speed and keeping the download rate 0, which is considered as maximum, gives you the best possible download speed. You can choose the settings from Properties> Bandwidth, then set the Global Upload Rate Limit as 80% your maximum upload.

Change the Number of Connections

After setting up the upload/download rate in your torrents, now you should consider changing the number of connections to avoid any overload. By tweaking the settings, you might get a good result.

But, for the people who don’t know, well! I can pretty much suggest to you some rough numbers which might help you increase your torrent downloading speed.
Go to properties> Bandwidth, then set Global maximum number of connections to 150 and the maximum number of connected peers per torrent to 100 and leave the upload slot as it is without changing anything.

Add More Trackers

Adding more trackers seems to be a good option for optimizing the torrent download speed. When you add new trackers, it will add new seeds and peers, thus resulting in faster download speed. 

Adding trackers to your torrent is really easy, all you have to do is to add these given links to your existing trackers.
Note: Do not erase the existing trackers while pasting a new tracker and there is no need to worry about any duplications.

New trackers can be added by right-clicking on the torrent file that you are currently downloading and then select Properties. The general tab is where you can find the trackers list. Scroll to the bottom and paste the trackers from the list that we have provided after a jump.
