Adding Old Photos, Videos to Instagram Stories

One of the basic workarounds which we can try to use is by changing the timestamp of the photos and videos which are shot earlier. So that will trick Instagram, and the app will find the date of the photo or video being shot within 24 hours thus it will allow you to upload the photo or video as your Instagram story.

Add old videos, Photos to Instagram Story from iOS Camera Roll

Alternatively, for iOS users, you can erase the image details and then save it to a new place in your gallery, that way Instagram will think that this particular image is being shot recently or created recently and will allow you to upload it as your story.

Since it can become a bit complex for a lot of users, so we have simplified the method with the help of an app called the Workflow app. So, make sure you have the Workflow app installed on your iPhone or iPad. You can download the app for free from Apple’s Appstore. Proceeding further you need to install the two workflows, ReSave Photo and ReSave Video to your iOS device by simply tapping on the Get Workflow button on your iPhone or iPad. Once you tap on it, the selected workflows will be added to your device and you can confirm it by going into the My Workflows section of the app.

Once you are done adding and checking the workflows inside the Workflow app, follow through with this quick tutorial to get the complete workaround of uploading Instagram stories of images and videos that are older than 24 hours.

  1. First, you need to open the Photos app and then select the particular photo or video that you want to upload on your Instagram story.
  2. Now, share that image or video to the workflow app, by clicking on the share button and then choosing the Run Workflow option from the extensions of the share screen. If you don’t see any such option then you can manually enable it by tapping on the more icon and then turning on the Run Workflow extension from the list and then tap on done.
  3. Finally, choose the ReSave Photo or ReSave Video workflow, depending on the type of media you have selected.

With this, the selected workflow will execute and will change the information about the image or the video, which means the date and time of its creation would be changed. So, now if you open Instagram and then go to the story upload section you can see inside the camera roll option that the images or the videos which you have just edited using workflow are appearing at the top and are easily available to upload as your Instagram story. You can repeat the same steps aforementioned to add older photos and videos to the current timestamp so that it is uploadable on Instagram stories.

The workflow API of photo and video that is ReSave photo and ReSave video both creates a copy of the original photo and video. It doesn’t replace the original photos and videos, hence a duplicate copy of the image and video would be observed in the camera roll, you can delete them once you have uploaded the photos and videos as your Instagram story.

You can use any other app as well to do the same process, just make sure whichever app you use has the ability to re-save the photo and video with the current timestamp and you are good to go.

Add Old Photos, Videos to Instagram Story on Android

If you are an Android user and wants to upload photos or videos that are shot earlier than the 24-hour timeline then the file’s timestamp can be changed to the current date and time simply by using the file transfer system. All you have to do is open the file manager, then find the images and videos that you want to upload to Instagram as your story, then copy those and paste it to a random location, that’s it.

  1. You can use any of the file manager apps on Android either the default one, or the one provided by Google called Files by Google.
  2. Simply select the images and videos that you want to upload and then copy them.
  3. Paste it to another location and it will have the timestamp of the current date and time.
  4. So, now you can open Instagram and then head towards the stories section and then swipe up for gallery, there you can find your images and video which you just copied and will be available to upload as an Instagram story.
